A comprehensive assessment of the diseases of the population of various categories of victims of the Chernobyl accident consists of two directions. Firstly, it is an epidemiological assessment of cancer among different age groups of the population, both based on the models recommended by the International Commission on Radiological Protection (ICRP) and on the basis of widespread clinical observations over the period since 1986, that is, the actual state of cancer incidence correlated to forecast estimates.

Second is the assessment of non-cancer diseases. Moreover, there are currently no models for predicting radiation-induced non-cancer diseases for the range of Chernobyl radiation doses. An analysis of all recent publications on the Chernobyl disaster shows that they can be divided into three groups.

The first includes publications, the results of which speak of the dose of ionizing radiation as an unfavorable factor that affects various tissues, organs and systems of the body and leads to a weakening of the functional and coordinating capabilities of the body as a whole, and also contributes to the development of psychosomatic diseases.
