It should be noted that the circumstances of our life on planet Earth are developing in such a way that all living things are under the constant influence of its radiation background. Natural sources of radiation are:

a) external sources of radiation – extraterrestrial cosmic radiation, radiation from radionuclides of the Earth’s crust, building materials and air;

b) internal exposure – due to radionuclides in the human body.

The average annual effective equivalent dose for an adult is 2.4 m3v.

1. Cosmic radiation of high energy, interacting with nuclei air atoms, produces cosmogenic radionuclides – H3,Ve7, Ve10, WITHfourteen,Nа22 and Na24. In addition, cosmic radiation has neutron and gamma components, the degree of influence of which on a person depends on the altitude of a person above sea level. For example, we can say that the average annual dose for aircraft pilots can reach 15 mSv, taking into account solar activity, and for cosmonauts (Salyut-6 station) in 175 days up to 55 mSv.

2. The most important natural radionuclides that form internal “natural” irradiation of a person are K40, Rv87, U238 and Th232. These radionuclides are thoroughly mixed in nature – air, soil, water, food.
