Every adult has occasional neck pain throughout his life. The most common cause of them is degenerative changes in the spine, which include cervical osteochondrosis and spondylosis, arthrosis of the uncovertebral joints, protrusion of intervertebral discs, hypertrophy of the ligaments, as well as osteophytes and secondary damage to perivertebral tissues. Pains are localized along the back of the neck with irradiation to the head, shoulders and back.

The pain is most often acute and regresses within 7-10 days. Often there is a combination of neck pain and migraine-like paroxysms with autonomic dysfunction or their combination with dizziness against the background of anxiety-depressive syndrome (DR Shtulman, OS Levin, 1999). Exacerbations of pain syndrome occur at different intervals and are often provoked by unsuccessful movement, hypothermia, or prolonged stay in an uncomfortable position (including during sleep).
