Diroflariasis is caused Dirofilaria immitis. Etiology.Pathogen – D. immitis – genus nematode Dirofilaria. It parasitizes in many mammals, but dogs are the main reservoir of invasion. Adult helminths are localized in the right ventricle of the dog’s heart, and microfilariae circulate in the peripheral blood. Further developmentD. immitis occurs in mosquitoes, which transmit the invasion to humans. Man is a casual master.
The larvae entering his body are localized in the small vessels of the lungs. D. immitis is a widespread infestation in dogs, and human cases are common. Clinic and pathogenesis. Most cases of larval infestation D. immitis are asymptomatic, and pathological changes are detected by chance during X-ray examination. Sometimes there are chest pains, cough, less often – hemoptysis. Xray examination reveals “coin-like” lesions in the lungs, spherical limited solitary nodes with a diameter of 1–2 cm. In such cases, a diagnosis is made of either a tumor in the lungs or pulmonary tuberculosis.
