Hookworms enter the human body with unwashed vegetables, fruits, or through water, hands. Therefore, hookworm disease is sometimes called the disease of vegetarians. The final host is a person in whom adult helminths parasitize in the upper gastrointestinal tract; the female’s eggs are laid in the upper part of the small intestine. Eggs come out with feces, and their further development takes place in the soil.
The larvae grown in eggs in the soil retain the ability to penetrate for up to 1.5 years. The larvae enter a person in two ways: I described the first one above – with vegetables; the second one is introduced through the skin, and pay attention to their size – 0.05–0.07 mm, ie. this is a small, thin invisible needle, and even with a hook at the end. These needles are fixed on the skin, then they are embedded and through the blood, lymphatic vessels, along the small and large circle of blood circulation, they wander in search of pure blood.
