Atherosclerosis action of a number chronic disease, the development of which is associated with risk factors contributing to the formation atherosclerotic changes in the vascular wall. An important role in the development of atherosclerosis is attributed to the inflammatory process, in which the activation of macrophages plays a key role. Activated macrophages located in the artery wall are capable of absorbing cholesterol in excess from low specific density lipoproteins, turning into so-called foam cells, which are a characteristic early sign of the development of atherosclerosis.
