SUMMARY Long turmeric (Curcuma longa L.) and its biologically active substances curcuminoids have pleiotropic activity, including antibacterial activity. Numerous studies have shown that the antibacterial activity of turmeric and curcuminoid extracts has a wide range of biological and pharmacological properties against various pathogenic and opportunistic microbes. The
mechanisms of antibacterial action of curcumin consist either in direct interference with the reproduction of bacteria or in the suppression of cellular signaling pathways required for their replication. This review summarizes current data and prospects for the use of the antibacterial
activity of curcumin.
