Introduction The fifth edition of the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM-5), published in May 2013 [2], is used to diagnose and assess the severity of the disease. It is believed that autism is provoked by a complex of factors [1], in particular:
– gene modifications;
– organic lesions of the central nervous system;
– hormonal disruptions;
– exposure to viral and bacterial infections;
– excessive use of antibiotics;
– chemical effects on the mother’s body during pregnancy;
– the unfortunate consequences of vaccinations.
Whether these factors can actually cause autism in children is not known. In 2014, a work by Swedish scientists was published showing that about half of the genes that were previously thought to cause the autism phenotype are widespread among people [3]. Autism is usually treated with behavioral psychological therapies, usually behavioral therapy ormethod of applied behavior analysis ABA (Applied behavior analysis) [4].
