Psoriatic arthritis is a chronic progressive joint disease that occurs as a complication of psoriasis.

Prevalence of psoriasis in the population is 2-3 %, a the prevalence of arthritis among patients with psoriasis ranges from 13.5 to 47%. Most often, psoriatic arthritis begins between the ages of 20 and 50, and men and women get sick equally often. There are cases of a particularly severe course of psoriatic arthritis in young men. The cause of psoriasis and psoriatic arthritis is currently unknown. The prevention of psoriatic arthritis has not been developed due to a lack of knowledge about its cause. The so-called secondary prevention (that is, prevention of the deterioration of patients’ condition after the onset of the disease), aimed at maintaining the functional ability of the joints and slowing the rate of progression of psoriatic arthritis.
