Viral hepatitis is one of the most socially significant problems of medicine and of mankind as a whole, as it is characterized by a continuous increase in morbidity and frequent formation of adverse outcomes (chronic hepatitis, cirrhosis, carcinoma, other chronic processes in the body) and mortality associated with both acute and and chronic forms of the disease.
Despite the abundance of scientific publications on epidemiology, pathogenesis, clinic, therapy and outcomes of viral hepatitis, many aspects of the problem remain unresolved. Diagnostics of the virus is expensive, not available to all segments of the population, not always perfect, there are no criteria for predicting the chronization of the process, there are no methods of treatment that prevent an unfavorable outcome and allow to achieve complete elimination of the virus from the body.
The most relevant are viral hepatitis B (HVB) and C (HVC), given their hematomas – contact and sexual transmission. More than a quarter of a million people fall ill with hepatitis B annually in the world, about 300 million are infected. According to WHO, more than 1/3 of the world’s population has already been infected with hepatitis B, and now 5% of them are carriers of the infection.
