At present, there has been a significant increase in the capabilities of computing facilities, and, therefore, the range of problems solved with their help has expanded. Many applied tasks that were previously implemented using circuitry solutions, as well as tasks that could not be implemented at all on the existing element base, can now be implemented in software using microprocessor systems.
The development of microelectronics made it possible, on the one hand, to complicate the architecture of the microprocessor in order to increase the computing power, and on the other hand, to significantly reduce its size and power consumption and combine it with other components of the microprocessor system in one structural element. The area of application of single-chip microprocessor systems (single-chip micro-computers or microcontrollers) is very wide: they can be used autonomously in “smart” electronic devices or be part of more complex computing systems, but their main task is to control hardware.
