In modern gastroenterology, two problems that receive increased attention can be distinguished: the diagnosis and treatment of chronic viral hepatitis and diseases of the gastroduodenal zone associated with pyloric Helicobacter (Hp). In particular, hepatitis C, according to WHO, is infected with about 3% of the world’s population, while in about 70% of cases there is a chronic form of the course of the disease.
The long-term danger of chronic hepatitis C is the development of liver cirrhosis and hepatocellular carcinoma. Modern diagnostics of chronic hepatitis is based on the determination of the activity of alanine aminotransferase (ALT), the content of viral RNA in the blood serum by the method of polymerase chain reaction (PCR) and liver biopsy.
