Herpetic infections are widespread human diseases caused by DNA viruses of the Herpes family. These include herpes simplex, chickenpox, herpes zoster, CMV, mononucleosis. The causative agent of herpes simplex is the Herpes simplex type 2 virus. The virus can persist in the body for life. This ability of herpes viruses to exist latently in the nerve ganglia is one of the rare biological phenomena, the phenomenon of which is not fully understood.

According to a number of authors, almost the entire adult population has specific antibodies to the herpes simplex virus. It is isolated in almost 5% of adults who do not make complaints. The clinical manifestations of the disease are associated with the activation of the virus in violation of the immune system.
