The liver plays an important role in the detoxification of the body: liver enzymes process toxic compounds into a safe form, important metabolic processes take place in the liver, bile is synthesized, without which normal digestion is impossible (first of all, the digestion of fats), and glycogen stores are formed from excess glucose. Here, the metabolism of vitamins and hormones takes place.

The liver is actively involved in the metabolism, and its function is influenced by many different factors, such as obesity, alcoholism, drug abuse, viral diseases, etc. In Russia, obesity affects about 27% of the population. Alcohol abuse leads to fatty degeneration of the liver, hepatitis and subsequent cirrhosis, which are observed in about 40% of the population of Russia, and mortality from liver diseases is at the level of 14,000 people per year. In recent years, experts have noted an increase in the number of liver diseases in the population. The danger of these diseases lies, among other things, in the fact that at an early stage they can be asymptomatic or with mild symptoms.
