SUMMARY The article provides an overview of the biological activity of a group of substances of plant origin – furocoumarins. These are phenolic compounds derived from coumarin, typical mainly for representatives of the families of celery
(Apiaceae) and rue (Rutaceae). Furocoumarins are synthesized by plants in
response to stress and to protect against pests (fungi, bacteria and insects).
