Osteomyelitis is an infectious-inflammatory (purulent or purulent-necrotic) lesion of bone tissue, bone marrow, periosteum, and surrounding soft tissues. According to ICD-10, the disease belongs to the group of osteopathies and chondropathies of the musculoskeletal system. Osteomyelitis is divided into nonspecific (caused more often by pus-forming microbes) and specific (tuberculous, syphilitic, brucellosis) according to the etiological character and routes of infection. endogenous (hematogenous) and exogenous.
According to the clinical course – acute, subacute, chronic. A common pathogen is Staphylococcus aureus. Long bones are most often involved in the inflammatory process. Osteomyelitis of the bones of the skull is a rare disease, its prevalence is 1.5%, and among cases of osteomyelitis of flat bones – 3% [3]. Osteomyelitis of the bones of the skull can be observed at any age, but mainly children and young people suffer from it.
