New Approaches to Standardization of St. John’s Wort Herbs

RESUME An express-method for quantitative determination of active substances in herbs of Hypericum perforatum and Hypericum maculatum, harvested in different areas of the Republic of Tatarstan, is developed. Optimal extraction conditions of flavonoids – principal active substances of
these herbs, and conditions of their spectrophotometric determination after reaction with
aluminum chloride have been determined. The accuracy of the method has been tested statistically,
the error of the method does not exceed 0.9%.
