SUMMARY The article is a review of scientific literature on the use of harmala (Peganum harmala L.) in ancient, modern folk and scientific medicine (for the period from 1973 to 2014) in Russian, Tajik, Uzbek, English, German. Attention is focused on the
chemical analysis of biologically active substances of harmala, the results of
experimental studies and the prospects for application in modern clinical medicine.
