Identification of the etiological factors of many chronic diseases remains one of the unsolved problems in medicine. In recent years, the stabilization of the epidemiological situation with regard to tuberculosis has been noted in the Russian Federation. The urgent task of modern phthisiology is the implementation of express diagnostics of drug resistance of mycobacterium tuberculosis (MBT) and issues related to the implementation of complex treatment of patients with various forms of drug-resistant tuberculosis.

Significant events on this issue were: the scientific-practical conference “Treatment of tuberculosis” (December 2003) and the joint session of the Russian Academy of Sciences and the Russian Academy of Medical Sciences “Science for human health” (January 2004), which have chosen as a priority in the prevention, diagnosis and treatment drug-resistant tuberculosis, study of MBT genomics (creation of protein biochips, DNA vaccines, new antibiotics with a point target).
