Fibromyalgia is a special form of extra-articular soft tissue lesions characterized by diffuse pain, fatigue of skeletal muscles and a decrease in pain threshold on palpation in characteristic places called “pain points”. Considering a wide range of diseases of the musculoskeletal system, one can note a low percentage of detection of the syndrome fibromyalgia, because the criteria for this disease are not widespread enough and are used in medical practice. More often FM proceeds under the guise of myositis and isioradiculitis, exacerbation of osteochondrosis, and is accordingly treated, which gives low efficiency.

The prevalence of FM in our country does not have accurate statistical figures. It is believed to affect several million people. Moreover, women are 10 times more than men. According to an epidemiological survey in the United States, out of 10% of patients with chronic diffuse muscle pain, 2% have FM syndrome (T. Schochat Institute of Rehabilitation Germany, 1993).
