Vegeto-visceral paroxysms is a pathology that is quite common in neuropsychiatric practice. However, at the same time, in such patients, it is not disorders of the nervous system or psyche that come to the fore, but complaints of a somatic nature. Most often these are attacks of abdominal pain (sometimes accompanied by dyspeptic symptoms – nausea, vomiting, stool disorders), less often – pain in the heart, behind the breastbone.

Regardless of the different somatic localization (abdominal pain, pain in the heart), such paroxysms are always stereotyped and have a number of characteristic symptoms: – pronounced vegetative manifestations that accompany pain syndrome, regardless of its location (redness or blanching of the skin, increased sweating); – a feeling of fear, up to the development of a panic state (most often it is an inexplicable fear or fear of death); – weakness and drowsiness at the end of the attack. Without adequate treatment, over the years, the clinical picture deteriorates markedly: attacks become more frequent, their duration increases, and the variety of accompanying symptoms increases.
