Tuberculosis (TB) is a global health threat worldwide that deserves special attention due to its magnitude. Currently, the Russian Federation has one of the highest tuberculosis mortality rates in Europe. Tuberculosis is the leading cause of death from infectious diseases in Russia. The tuberculosis situation remains even more difficult in prisons, where the incidence rate among prisoners is ten times higher than in the civilian sector.

Rapid and accurate diagnosis of disease in TB patients is the cornerstone of the global strategy for TB control. Scientific and technological progress makes it possible to develop new high-tech diagnostic methods and introduce them into healthcare practice. But in reality this only happens in industrialized countries, while in underdeveloped countries where TB endemic areas are located, TB diagnostics is at a low level due to lack of diagnostics and a lack of qualified personnel.
